The Experience

Before You Go

Prepare for technical single-track

Practice cornering and rock-rolls beforehand; many descents are fast and require confident line choice.

Hydration and calories

Carry 2–3 L of water and high-calorie snacks—stages can be 6–8 hours with limited resupply until villages.

Bike kit and spares

Bring a compact toolkit, spare tubes, and a mini-pump; mechanicals are handled on the trail but support is limited in remote sections.

Pace the climbs

Expect sustained ascents up to 1,500–2,000 m on heavy days—ride within your threshold and save energy for technical descents.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Tacheddirt viewpoint above terraced fields for sunrise photos
  • A short, unmarked riverbed descent that offers fast technical flow between villages

Wildlife

  • Barbary macaque
  • Golden eagle

Conservation Note

Stick to designated trails to limit erosion, support local guides and gites to keep tourism benefits in village economies, and pack out all rubbish.

The High Atlas is home to Amazigh (Berber) communities whose stone-built villages and transhumant practices have shaped the landscape for centuries.
