The Experience

Before You Go

Hydrate on the creek stretches

Carry a full water bottle—there are few reliable refill stations on the route and the altitude dries you faster than you expect.

Layer for wind

Bring a lightweight wind jacket—exposed ridgelines near NCAR can be significantly cooler and gusty.

Know the limits

Riders must be 18+, under 280 lb, and able to ride a regular bike; staff will check ID and height at check-in.

Helmet policy

Helmets are required and provided—refusal means you cannot ride and no refund will be issued.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Quiet bench at Eben G. Fine Park with creek views
  • Roof access at the CU Memorial Center for a city-and-mountain panorama

Wildlife

  • Red-tailed hawk
  • Mule deer

Conservation Note

Stay on designated paths and pack out waste—the creek corridor and foothill trails are managed to protect riparian habitat and nesting birds.

Boulder grew rapidly after the late 1800s gold rush and the Chautauqua movement made the foothills a cultural and recreational destination starting in the 1890s.
