The Experience

Before You Go

Bring grippy shoes

Sections near Baltzers Lookout and Hanging Rock are loose underfoot; shoes with good tread improve control when pushing or walking the bike.

Hydrate for the ridge

Carry at least 1–2L of water—the e‑assist helps climbs but the air is dry and you’ll be exposed on ridgelines.

Mind the cliff edges

Hanging Rock has no safety fence; keep a safe distance, especially in wind or with groups.

Charge and confirm e‑bike setup

Arrive with a charged phone and confirm battery allocation with the host; briefings last 30–40 minutes before you ride.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Baltzers Lookout for a less-crowded ridge view
  • Short side trails along Burramoko Ridge with sandstone outcrops and local wildflowers in spring

Wildlife

  • Superb lyrebird
  • Swamp wallaby

Conservation Note

Stay on designated fire trails to protect fragile sandstone vegetation and soils; pack out everything and avoid edging close to unfenced cliffs to reduce erosion and risk.

The Hanging Rock and Burramoko Ridge area sits on land traditionally used by the Gundungurra and Darug peoples; 20th‑century fire trails later opened the ridge for recreational riding.

No advanced experience is required—this is a beginner‑friendly fire‑trail ride—but you should be comfortable on uneven surfaces and able to manage basic braking and shifting.

How far will the e‑bike battery take me?

E‑assist is sized for the 3–4 hour outing; hosts provide battery allocation and will advise on power use—carry your route and plan for conservative assist in steep sections.

Are helmets and safety gear provided?

Helmets are provided and fitted by the host; you can bring your own. Basic repair kits and spare tubes can be hired on the day.

Is Hanging Rock safe for children or pregnant riders?

The ride suits older children with solid bike skills, but the operator notes it is not recommended for pregnant travelers and children should be supervised near cliff edges.
