The Experience

Before You Go

Acclimate to altitude

Spend an hour resting after arrival—at ~8,000 ft you may feel breathless on climbs; take it easy at first.

Practice e-bike handling

Arrive 10–15 minutes early to test throttle and brakes during the pre-ride orientation so you’re comfortable on rolling terrain.

Sun and wind protection

High desert sun is intense even when cool; wear SPF, sunglasses, and a wind layer for exposed viewpoints.

Stay on designated paths

The plateau’s soils and cryptobiotic crusts are fragile—keep bikes and feet on established routes to protect the landscape.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • The quieter Fairyland viewpoints east of the main amphitheater for less-crowded photo angles
  • Mossy Cave trail near the park entrance — a short detour to see a small waterfall and different geology

Wildlife

  • Mule deer
  • Pinyon jay

Conservation Note

Stay on paved bike paths and trails to protect fragile soils and cryptobiotic crusts; follow guide instructions to minimize e-bike impacts on the landscape.

The Paunsaugunt Plateau’s sandstone hoodoos form from frost-wedging and erosion; Paiute oral histories interpret the hoodoos as transformed people, linking cultural stories to the formations.
