Before You Go

Hydrate before you ride

Desert heat builds quickly; drink at least 20 oz (600 ml) before departure and refill during stops—bottled water is provided.

Wear closed-toe shoes and a helmet

Helmets are required; sturdy shoes improve control on gravel and when walking down to the dam viewpoint.

Time for wildlife viewing

Head to Hemenway Park in the afternoon for the best chance to see Bighorn Sheep near the trailhead.

Watch tunnel transitions

Tunnels are dark with uneven surfaces—reduce speed and use the guide’s instructions when entering and exiting.

Is the tour appropriate for beginners or children?
