The Experience

Before You Go

Bring 1–2 liters of water

Even in shade, coastal humidity and riding effort dehydrate you quickly — carry a hydration pack or water bottles.

Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes

Flat MTB shoes or sneakers with good grip protect feet on pedals and when scrambling near the spring and cave.

Sun and bug protection

Apply reef-safe sunscreen and bring insect repellent for exposed sections and the spring area.

Know the weight and skill limits

Maximum rider weight is about 225 lb and basic mountain-biking competence is required for root and rock sections.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • A secluded downstream pool near the spring that’s calm for a quiet dip
  • A short side line where native fruit trees attract hummingbirds in the morning

Wildlife

  • Caribbean hermit crabs and small shore crabs near wet areas
  • Native songbirds and occasional iguanas sunning on low branches

Conservation Note

This coastal forest and spring are sensitive to trampling and contamination; visitors are asked to pack out waste, avoid soap in the water, and stay on designated trails to protect fragile karst features.

Coastal communities here developed around fishing and small-scale agriculture; local trails often follow old service tracks and access routes to springs used historically for freshwater.
