Trebevic Sarajevo MTB: Private Ride to the Olympic Bobsleigh Track

The Experience

Before You Go

Prepare for mixed surfaces

Bring tires and pressure settings suited for asphalt, gravel and loose singletrack—expect to switch from hardpack to rocky trail quickly.

Tube and tool kit

Even with provided bikes, carry a spare tube, patch kit and a compact multi-tool—the bobsleigh track and steep descents can be puncture-prone.

Pace the climb

The 1,170 m ascent is steady; conserve energy on the asphalt approach so you have control on technical descents.

Respect historical sites

Several viewpoints overlook former frontline sectors—observe respectfully and avoid disturbing artifacts or marked memorials.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Rideable sections of the abandoned 1984 Olympic bobsleigh track—unique concrete descents not found on most MTBs.
  • Eastern ridgeline viewpoints offering direct sightlines to Sarajevo’s old town and the Miljacka river below.

Wildlife

  • Red fox
  • Eurasian jay

Conservation Note

Trails on Trebević are sensitive to erosion—stick to established lines, avoid widening ruts, and pack out all waste to protect the mountain’s recovery.

Trebević hosted events in the 1984 Winter Olympics and later became a frontline during the 1992–95 Bosnian War; the route intersects both athletic and recent wartime history.
